The Birth of a Dance School

The Infinite Movement platform was created in 2002 for embodiment coaching, experiential anatomy training and somatic movement workshops. By the year 2008 it had begun to attract dance students amonst the young dancers of the city of Zurich. Something exciting was afoot and our initial focus on training movement professionals and working one-on-one in an exploration-based therapeutic context was evolving into a much broader interest and speaking to a new audience that was asking for holistic, creative and artistic ballet and dance education. An interestingly symbiotic growth phase and expansion of our offering was generated in the midst of this vibrant and fertile dialogue.

Soon, Infinite Movement was at a point of overflow thanks to the somewhat explosive growth of this new dance community. We put our heads together, found some great new additions to the team and came up with a plan. The Infinite Dance Association was born and with it a vessel for a new dance institution created. The Infinite Dance School soon found a well-respected place in Zurich's dance education scene as a school with high artistic integrity and unusually transdisciplinary methods.

A Unique Vision and Methodology

At the heart of Infinite Dance’s approach lies a deeply integrative pedagogy, one that merges dance science with artistic flair and technical excellence with profound human care. Over the years, Infinite Dance has guided many hundreds of students on their dance journeys, many beginning as young as three and continuing well into early adulthood. The teaching system is a rare and rich blend of classical and contemporary techniques, somatic education, dance science and psychological insight, each element carefully interwoven to support the full spectrum of a dancer’s growth.

Central to Infinite Dance’s philosophy is the belief that dance is not only a technical discipline but a means of personal transformation. The school cultivates a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe, emphasizing body awareness, creative agency and emotional intelligence as essential components of a dancer’s development. Instruction avoids the potentially harmful demands often found in traditional ballet training, favoring developmentally appropriate, body-friendly progressions. Students are encouraged to listen to their bodies, ask questions and explore movement with curiosity rather than fear - a pedagogical stance that fosters resilience, self-trust and authentic self-expression.

Of Broader Horizons and Interdisciplinary Curriculum

The school’s curriculum is grounded in dance science and somatic practices. Drawing from the latest anatomical, biomechanical and psychological research, Infinite Dance integrates methods such as the Ideokinesis, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), Yoga and Pilates. These are not simply supplementary tools but foundational components that support functional movement, injury prevention and long-term physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The use of mental imagery, metaphor and cognitive training - drawn from the work of pioneers like Eric Franklin and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen - has proven remarkably effective in improving postural alignment, enhancing performance and deepening the dancer’s embodied awareness.

Innovation is a defining aspect of Infinite Dance’s educational approach. The curriculum seamlessly incorporates narrative, play theory and improvisation, challenging the rigid structures often associated with traditional dance training. Young students engage in storytelling and imaginative exploration to develop both psychomotor skills and creative capacity, while older students benefit from customized coaching techniques that support body-mind integration, neuroplasticity and emotional regulation. This adaptive and layered approach empowers dancers to become active participants in their learning, cultivating autonomy, confidence and a lifelong connection to movement.

Dance and Beyond - more than just a dance school

What sets Infinite Dance apart is not only depth of methodology but the profound and lasting impact it has on its students. Dancers leave the program not only more technically proficient but more self-aware, expressive and resilient. Whether nurturing aspiring professionals or dedicated amateurs, Infinite Movement operates as a true “school for life,” where movement serves as a pathway to empowerment, self-discovery, personal insight and creative discovery. Infinite Dance exemplifies the values of modern dance education - evidence-based practice, student-centered learning and a commitment to holistic health and wellbeing.
